Medicare, when first introduced in 1965 provided all beneficiaries with a very basic level of health insurance, due to which all individuals, whether they were fit or sick, rich or poor, all had same level of benefits.
It is due to this fact that people still think that Medicare is just a universal health program and it only offers equal benefits to all!
In 1997, this Medicare universal health program was divided into various financing and delivery systems, which was later renamed as Medicare Advantage.
On close scrutiny, one would find that this newly developed program, particularly if you are looking to get extra benefits from plans offered by private parties has various levels of benefits accruing to different people. One important factor that decides this extra benefit is the state or county you reside in.
Medicare Advantage has been framed in such a way that private insurance companies are reimbursed by Medicare based on the county where the member resides, and such reimbursement varies from county to county.
It would be worthwhile to take the service of an advisor to go through various medical insurance plans offered by private companies, suitably compare them as per your location and budget and make a personalized judgment.
